K'TON TON PHILOSOPHY

K’Ton Ton offers preschool and summer camp programs for 3 to 5 year old children.  K’Ton Ton is sponsored by Jewish Community Services, under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana.  As a program sponsored by a Jewish organization, K’Ton Ton observes Jewish holidays as well as secular holidays.  All children participate in the holiday activities.  Our emphasis is an understanding of all people.

The program of K’Ton Ton is geared to meet the needs of growth and self-expression under trained, competent staff supervision.  We want your child’s first school experience to be a happy and supportive one.  It is our goal to help develop your child’s positive self image and the social and cognitive skills appropriate to his or her developmental level.  We assert the right of each child to be a special and unique individual.

NAEYC ACCREDITATION

K’Ton Ton is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nation’s largest organization of early childhood educators.  NAEYC administers the only national, voluntary, professionally sponsored accreditation system for all types of preschools and child care centers.  This means that K’Ton Ton has voluntarily undergone a complete process of self-study and professional review and has met the requirements of NAEYC’s criteria for high quality Early Childhood Programs.  K’Ton Ton is license exempt.  The State of Indiana does not license half day child care centers.

AFTERNOON ENRICHMENT

Afternoon Enrichment offers K’Ton Ton’s four and five year old students an opportunity for an extended day.  Class sessions generally meet weekly for four to eight week intervals.  Various activities, projects, and stories will incorporate a selected theme.  This program takes place at K’Ton Ton following the regularly scheduled morning, so children are asked to bring a dairy or vegetarian lunch.  (See our Kosher Policy).  Class size is limited in order to provide the participants with individualized attention, and activities can be specialized.  Teachers will determine if a child is ready, attentive, and has the ability to actively participate in this extended day program.

 KAMP K'TON TON

Kamp K’Ton Ton meets during the summer months.  “Kamp” provides children with an enriching, fun-filled experience.  The program utilizes K’Ton Ton’s spacious  playground.  Weather permitting, the majority of the activities are planned for outdoors and include water play, arts & crafts, music, stories, a weekly Shabbat celebration, and exciting themes, chosen specifically for the season.  The curriculum is planned by our experienced and creative staff.  This is an excellent opportunity for a child new to preschool as well as the returning students.  Activities are planned appropriately for the various age and developmental levels.

MOMMY 'N ME

Mommy ‘N Me is for children who will be turning two years old during the coming year and their parent(s).  A relaxed and enjoyable introduction to preschool, Mommy ‘N Me meets weekly for one hour and thirty minutes.  Classes are kept small.  Children learn songs, fingerplays, and make crafts appropriate to their skills and developmental level.  They may play with puzzles, blocks, and toys, or they can dress up and play in K’Ton Ton’s housekeeping and other activity areas.  Children have the opportunity to make friends and feel good about their own school environment.  Parent involvement is a very important part of our program.  A staff person serves as facilitator and friend to the group.

ME "TWO"

Me “Two” is a program for toddlers.  Children should be turning two years old by October 31st of the upcoming
school year and be able to separate.  A child may be enrolled for either one day or two days per week, and may be concurrently enrolled in Mommy ‘N Me.  Class sessions are two hours long.  A teacher and an assistant facilitate the group in activities such as stories, music, finger plays, arts & crafts, and creative play.  Activities are planned appropriately for the age and developmental level of the children.  The emphasis is on socialization and separation.  Jewish and secular holidays are observed.  Me “Two” serves as an excellent introduction to preschool.
