General Assembly

Shlichim Reunion in Israel

Every five years Israel hosts the annual United Jewish Communities General Assembly.  During this year's meeting over 4000 participants from across North America and Israel heard from Israel's key politicians, such as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Benjamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni discuss the primary issue that is on the minds of Israelis and most Jews around the world - Security and the threat of Iran.  Although nothing conclusive was decided, it was agreed from these representatives that Iran is a threat to Israel's security as well as many countries throughout the Middle East and in some way whether it be politically or militarily, the growing concern of this country looms over the state of Israel.

In addition to spending time in Jerusalem, the delegation from northwest Indiana spent time in our partnership region in the Western Galilee gaining a better understanding of how our dollars are spent and the needs that exist in this region of Israel.

One of the highlights of this trip was a reunion with our past and present shlichim.  Pictured above are Avishag Debowy, Oded Fromovitz and Avi Cohen, These young individuals have made an indelible mark on our community and, through their presence and programming, are able to bring a piece of Israel to our community right here in northwest Indiana.
